A new spot to enjoy the beauty of the Hanalei Valley is in the works thanks to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in partnership with the state Department of Transportation Highways Division. The location will be just east of the Princeville Shopping Center.
Visitors and residents can look forward to exploring the 5.4 acres that includes two viewpoints with views of Hanalei Valley, Hanalei Bay and the Halele‘a Forest Reserve. There will be perimeter fencing an entry gate, vault toilets, viewpoint seating, signs, interpretive displays and native plants. Plus parking for 25 cars, as well as, short-term parking for up to three buses and space for refuge staff or volunteers to provide outreach and information.
This will provide residents and visitors with opportunities to learn about the natural and cultural history of the Hanalei Valley and the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. An environmental assessment was conducted to evaluate the potential effects of the project and gather public input. The project is expected to be completed summer of 2022.
