On April 30, 2024, the brand new National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Viewpoint in Princeville opened to the public. The 5.4-acre parcel situated along Kuhio Highway in Princeville includes two lookouts and offers views over Hanalei Valley, Hanalei Bay, Hanalei NWR and the Halalea Forest Reserve. The viewpoint will be open Tuesday through Sunda between the hours of 9am and 3pm.
The Hanalei NWR is the oldest of Kauai's three national wildlife refuges. Originally planned to open in late Fall 2022, many delays were realized relating to the legal separation of the parcel from neighboring parcels.
