As the Beat of Hawaii reports, this historic Kauai Inn hotel has been listed for sale. The asking price for the 48-room hotel situated on 3 acres of land is $26 million.
With roots that date back to the late 1800's, the Kauai Inn name is associated with being Kauai's very first hotel, however, the lineage is complex. A different hotel, originally located on Rice Street, was the original Kauai Inn that dated back to 1890, but that hotel was literally moved to the current Royal Sonesta site in the 1960's, and the Kauai Inn name was abandoned. At that time, the property currently identified as the Kauai Inn adopted the name. Soon after that, John Wayne famously checked into Room 301 during the filming of "Donavan's Reef," and the entire property enjoyed a summer as a Hollywood hangout.
Now, the property is up for sale, and presents a unique investment opportunity, as each of the 48 rooms is recognized as it's own, separate 1-bedroom property that can be individually sold.
