Kauai Visitor Arrivals Down 96.5%, Visitor Spending Down 95% in January

Recent data from Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) showed that visitor arrivals to Hawaii were down 80% year-over-year for the month of January, with 172,000 visitors in 2021 compared to 862,600 in 2020.  The majority of those visitors came from domestic markets, as international travel continues to lag considerably.

All islands saw declines in visitor arrivals, but none more than Kauai, which was down 96.5% to less than 4,000 visitors. Kauai continues to have the state’s most stringent Covid-related travel rules in place.

Kauai also realized the largest drop in visitor spending, down nearly 95% year-over-year.
