New Sea Level Risk Disclosure Requirements for Hawaii

Jim Karlovsky

This new mandate, effective May 1st 2022, requires owners, when selling their property, to disclose the sea level rise, up to and including 3.2 feet. This disclosure requirement applies to oceanfront and near-oceanfront properties as well as to properties close to streams or areas likely to flood in heavy rainfall events.

The National Flood Insurance Program established the existing flood zone disclosure requirements. Now the sea level risk, or SLR, disclosures will help homeowners and home buyers better understand how SLR will impact their properties.

For more info click the SLR Disclosure Flyer which will provide you with background information on the new requirement, including guidance to the Hawai‘i Sea Level Rise Viewer.
